There is a fabulous book called 'Climbing Parnassus' that is about classical education. Although it focuses on Greek and Latin, along the way it makes the strongest argument for the classical curriculum and the humanities that I have found. It was my "go-to" book whenever I was in doubt about the humanities. It's a must read.
